Speech
“National Examinations as dreams destroyer”
Good Morning.
The honorable teachers, and my beloved friends.
Thanks for the opportunity that you given to me. In this chance, I would like to deliver a speech with tittle “ National examination as dreams destroyer”.
Ladies and gentlemans,
National examination is less than two weeks from now. But there’s always a controversial about that. The big question is “what for?” Do we need a national examination to improve the quality of education? Let’s check it out.
For the government, a standardized national test means to control the quality of the schools, so that in the future, all schools in this country can meet the minimum demand of the national standard. This year the passing grade for the national examination is 4.25 of 10 (last year 4.01). For the school, the national examination will determine their prestige on the national stage. For the teachers, the national examination requires them no skills but drilling. For the students who take the examination, the benefit is far from clear. For those who pass the examination, other tests are waiting if they want to continue their education But unluckily, not many get into the higher ladder of education and these students have to bring the stigma—if they do not pass the examination, or the pride—if they do pass the exam through the whole of their life. No real benefits, anyway. It just like dreams destroyer.
Look on how the student in the poor region still strugling how to get school than how to get a good mark. It would be better if the national examinations should not be used to filter out the students. Instead, they can be significantly improved as diagnostic tests which advises students where they are strong and where they are weak and need improvement.
But still, we have to do this, because the government already decided for us. So, let’s do our best for the national examination this year!
I think that’s all, thank you very much for your attention.
